The “House Critters” Henrietta’s Travel Day Part 2
Henrietta awoke with a jump due to a very loud
noise which she had never heard before and she did not know where she was. Where
she was and why she was there dawned on her as she became fully awake. Riding
in a car with Amy and Barb during a trip to the Outlet Mall answered the where
and why but the noise was still a mystery. Turns out she had been asleep quite
a while, they were back in the small city and the noise was a police car with the
siren on coming up behind them. Henrietta had never heard anything so loud, it
hurt her ears and when it got next to them all the flashing lights hurt her
eyes. She hopped off the seat onto the floor to get away from sounds and lights
and while it helped with the lights the sounds were still loud. They were in
traffic with an accident ahead of them, which is where the police car was
headed but it could not move due to the blocked road. Amy thought the sound
would be painful to Henrietta as it was bothering Barb and her so she dropped
her jacket over the seat giving Henrietta something to cover her ears with,
which she did immediately. It seemed like a long time before the police car
moved and even longer before they moved away from the horrible noise although
it was probably only ten minutes but to Henrietta it seemed much longer than
that. She was ready to go home where she would tell the rest of the House
Critters about the trip and all the stuff she had seen.
The humans had other ideas, they were out
shopping, there were two more stores to visit and both of them were large. Amy
pulled into a very large parking lot, not as big as the mall but still way
bigger than what Henrietta was use to. They were at a Super Wal-Mart and Barb
convinced Henrietta to ride around in the shoulder bag to see all that was in the
store. To Henrietta this place looked like the mall but all the different
stores were just a section within this gigantic store and in addition there
were groceries. Not finding what they wanted the humans went back to the car
and Henrietta thought they were going home. They went to the light to leave the
parking lot but did not turn onto the main road instead they went straight
across and up a small hill where Henrietta saw another large parking lot. Once
again the shoulder bag went into the store with Henrietta in it. This was BJ’s
where they picked up items in gigantic packages, Henrietta was not sure she
could jump over any of them. The paper towel pack had the equivalent of 22 regular
rolls, the toilet paper pack had the equivalent of 85 regular rolls and there
were 800 napkins, the three packages filled up the cart! They went through the
self check out and Amy let Henrietta ride on the conveyer belt that took the
items from the scanner to where you put them back into a cart to take them out
to the car. Henrietta actually rode it three times and wished there were more
items to scan as it was fun.
This time
when they got to the light at the main road Amy headed home, this pleased
Henrietta. She had a great time, except for the noisy car, saw lots of places,
saw more items than she could remember and would be able to talk about the trip
for quite awhile!
